Miko Abouaf

Miko can better be described as a passionate duduk player, rather than a professional musician. Born in Sydney, Australia, he now lives in London; where he first heard about duduk in early 2008.

He has been playing since, and in late 2008 had the opportunity to travel in Armenia – and have private lessons with the duduk teacher from the Conservatoire in Gyumri, Karo Shaboyan.

More than just a tool to create music, Miko considers his duduk playing to be one of his most soulful and deep means of self-expression.

Along with only a few other instruments, such as the cello, the duduk seems to be in complete harmony with the soul’s language. With the existence of such exceptional past and present musicians; such as Vatche Hovsepian or Djivan Gasparyan – Miko sees the full potential of this instrument.

He hopes to return to Armenia soon to once more delve into the Armenian culture – and expand his understanding of its music.
